She’Koyokh are the UK’s finest exponents of klezmer, Balkan and Turkish and Eastern European music. A live force to be reckoned with, they’re a wild swirl of violin, clarinet, jazzy guitar licks and dance-inducing percussion, plus the sweet and passionate voice of Turkish singer Cigdem Aslan. The band will play two sets along the course of the night, followed by the Dance Dance You Rascal You / Des Was a Bowie Fan DJs playing Hot Swing, Rock’n’Roll, Gypsy, Motown, New Wave and Northern Soul till 4am!
She’Koyokh is a Yiddish word meaning “nice one!” and the band have been hailed as “one of the finest and most entertaining British-based exponents of global music” (The Guardian), She’Koyokh have spent fifteen years absorbing the rich folk music traditions of Jewish Eastern Europe, Turkey and the Balkans. Their latest critically acclaimed album, First Dance on Second Avenue, is out now on Riverboat Records.
Dance Dance You Rascal You is a club playing Hot Swing, Jive, Rock’n’Roll, Brass-Fuelled Gospel, 60s Pop, Gypsy, Motown, New Wave and Northern Soul.
The night takes its name from the Harlem Hamfats’ [version of] the glorious ‘I’ll be Glad When You’re Dead You Rascal You’, and the feeling is a mix of prohibition-era romance, rock’n’roll hedonism and 60s loving and dreaming.
