This month Poetry Mondays celebrates the gathering of poets, musicians and painters emphasising two bohemian neighbourhoods which have marked 20th century Western poetry, music, art and culture: Montmartre, Paris and Greenwich Village (The Village), New York.
These two iconic villages absorbed into the metropolis paved the way for innovative art movements and fascinatingly fresh music and poetry. In their bars the likes of Degas, Suzanne Valadon, Edna St. Vincent Millay, Bob Dylan, E.E Cummings, Edgar Allan Poe and many others thought and wrote. Though great beacons of art emerged from their decadent jaunts and colourful squares what we want to celebrate on the 17th of June is the fusion of minds, the freedom, lifestyle and the community these places conjured.
Poetry Mondays gathers some of the most fiery performers in the London underground poetry and singer-songwriter scene. Come and experience their surreal convergence.
