A special Friday night with Club Débris playing high-energy French-Canadian trad music in brazenly major keys, and Elye Cuthbertson with his unique style of folk music on accordion.

Headliners Club Débris are a brilliant Quebec-inspired folk band based in London, formed of Will Allen (accordion/fiddle), Maisie Greenwood (fiddle), Duncan Menzies (fiddle/banjo), Will Chamberlain (piano) and Jessie Collins (percussive dance). Together they play no-nonsense tunes with a pro-nonsense attitude. For those unfamiliar, Québécois folk music is the result of many centuries of mixed influences between French, English, Scottish and Irish dance music, and is accompanied by driving, galloping foot percussion rhythms. Come dance!

IN ACTION

In support is the talented accordion player Elye Cuthbertson, who is a regular fixture at our monthly balfolk nights. Elye has been immersing himself in English folk music for 10 years under the guidance of some of the finest teachers of the tradition. With a passion for folk music from throughout Europe as well as the UK, his compositions reflect his varied influences. Elye has a unique approach to the melodeon which he has demonstrated through performances around the country, including his own concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
