This month Darkly Artful presents three acts that effortlessly blend creative flair with stunning musicality and technique. Original, accessible, energetic and exciting, this promises to be an exceptional night of musical entertainment in the magical surroundings of Jamboree.
iyatraQuartet
‘iyatra’ comes from the Hindi word for ‘travel’ and ‘journey’: a concept embraced by this exciting new music group.
The band draw on a diverse range of musical styles, rhythms and melodies from around the world to devise and perform their own music. With backgrounds in classical, jazz, Cuban, Brazilian and Indian music, iyatraQuartet combine Indian raga with drum and bass rhythms, plainchant with extended percussion techniques and many more influences to create a unique sound and collection of musical experiences.
“Surprising, inventive and beautiful…real heart and soul”

Quinta
Classically trained rather than classically moulded, Quinta meets free play and experimentation with musical substance in her work, and brings a mischievous theatricality to her performances.
Her first record, My Sister, Boudicca was released in 2009 on indie label Tartaruga, and contains a very distinctive sound world of strings, musical saw, harmonium, piano, found sounds and homemade samples. She will be releasing her second album, “Everything is beautiful and nothing hurts” in the new year.
As well as her solo project, Quinta has worked with, amongst others, Bat for Lashes, Radiohead’s Philip Selway, Penguin Café, Marques Toliver and Patrick Wolf, as well as pioneering ‘paperteers’, The Paper Cinema, and award-winning acrobatic troupes Ockham’s Razor and Mimbre.
She is Music Fellow at the Rambert Dance Company and one quarter of all-female experimental arts collective, Collectress, who released their first album, Mondegreen, in 2014.
Gaia Duo
Virtuoso violinists Flora Curzon and Piotr Jordan started Gaia Duo in 2014. Their Gypsy/classical/folk compositions are performed with a wonderfully free, intimate and relaxed spirit.
