Darkly Artful welcome some truly exceptional musicians back to Jamboree in the shape of piano trio Quest Ensemble and string duo Flora Curzon & Fancesca Ter-Berg. They are also delighted to present – for his first ever solo performance – guitarist Daniel Baker…

Quest Ensemble, an interaction between three powerful and versatile players, are a unique take on the classical piano trio format, creating original work that seamlessly blends improvisation with devised composition. Intrinsically contemporary in approach, this ensemble inhabits a lyrical sound world somewhere in the gaps between chamber, jazz, folk and 20th Century classical music – with intriguing traces of Vaughn Williams, Steve Reich, and Esbjörn Svensson Trio.

The group will perform pieces from their debut album Footfall, along with some brand new material.

“Compositionally complex, inventive in technique and wonderfully ambiguous in tonality, this was a joy to behold” – Jazzwise

Flora Curzon & Fancesca Ter-Berg: This new collaboration between virtuoso violinist Flora and folk cellist Francesca focuses on the traditional string music of Eastern Europe. Having performed together with Talvin Singh, Katy Carr, Sam Lee, Dunajska Kapelye and the London Klezmer Quartet, this new project combines Curzon and Ter-Berg’s shared love of Klezmer, Transylvanian music, melodic lyricism, groove and improvisation.

Influenced by Klezmer and other Eastern European folk and gypsy music, Curzon and Ter-Berg combine these traditions with their own unique arrangement style to create a sound that is both timeless and contemporary.

Daniel Baker plays beautiful soaring ambient music, using just a guitar, ebow, and pedals. Daniel will be showcasing a new piece, influenced by the early minimalist work of Brian Eno.
