An evening of beautiful traditional Manouche and Romani Gypsy music, Django Reinhardt compositions, originals, jazz and Brazilian choro music at the hands of Kamao Quartet.
“Kamao” means “I like/ I want/ I love” in Romani dialect.
The Kamao Qaurtet take their inspiration from the legacy of the great Django Reinhardt and traditional Manouche and Romani (gypsy) music. Their repertoire ranges from hot swinging jazz, to traditional manouche songs, original compositions, jazz songs and even Brazilian Choro. Fronted by singer and guitarist Jean de Talhouet, the band on this night will include Andrew Woolf (clarinetist and wonderful Brazilian Choro and jazz player), Dave Shulman (trading his usual clarinet for saxophone) and Colin Somervell (bass), creating a beautiful sound that compliments the vocals with haunting and lyrical harmonies, punctuated with captivating instrumental improvisations.
The Kamao line-up for this night is:
Zac Gvi – clarinet, piano
Sheila Maurice Grey – trumpet
Jean de Talhouet – guitar, vocals
Harry Sankey – guitar
Ruth Goller – bass
