Malphino is a mysterious band from an imaginative tropical island of the same name that plays cumbia and a heady mix of volcanic sounds. Their music serves as a cinematic score to the backdrop of this mystical isle and its ethos.
The musicians of Malphino reinterpret the traditional banda, playing organ, accordion, tuba, and an array of percussion and rhythms from all corners of the world. Their unique take on the style is no doubt influenced by their diverse membership. Malphino is a gathering of nationalities whose members hail from Japan, Malaysia, Colombia, France, UK and the Philippines, and are based in London. This central idea of multiculturalism is the foundation for Malphino’s conceptual music project.
Mademoiselle Garance Loulou, of Garance and the Mitochondries, is an incredibly talented purveyor of French folk, Pop, chanson, Gypsy folk and rock’n’roll. Garance has recently released ace second album, ‘Balance L’aurore’ with the Mitochondries, as well as embarking on a disco-punk trip with Chewy She. Tonight she will play in a duo with Adam Beattie, ace purveyor of lyrical folk music. Adam will also play some songs of his own. on the night
Also, come early to see something very special from Kate and Nina Scott in support. The duo have a rare intimacy and lyricism, creating a dreamy, shimmering folk-Pop sound reminiscent of Joanna Newsome at her most melodically flowing.
