Yiddish Dance Class: Buy tickets HERE
Headliners Oysland embody the new generation of Yiddish roots music, serving up an exuberant and soulful cocktail of wedding songs and lamenting lullabies. They swoop through centuries of traditional pieces gleaned from Eastern Europe with panache, adding wider scopes from the Balkans, whilst preserving all the essential & original ingredients. Expect, heartfelt melodies, foot-stomping beats and echoes of a bygone era.
‘Top notch next generation klezmer’ – DJ Ritu
Ilana Cravitz is a London-based fiddler and Yiddish dance caller who has toured internationally, playing and teaching klezmer. During lockdown she set up the London International Klezmer Experience to produce events and materials, including music festivals & publications. As well as running regular live and online workshops for adults, Ilana is establishing the National Klezmer Youth Orkester, with the Jamboree currently a favourite training venue!
Yiddish Dance Class
Ilana and Olga Baron are both experienced and expert leaders in Yiddish dances. As well as calling the dances during the evening, they are offering a workshop beforehand for anyone who’d like to learn the steps and warm-up for the night ahead. No previous experience is needed. These dances are for family celebrations and are designed to be easy and fun for everyone. The style of dances include Eastern European line and circle dances, hora/bulgar/freylachs, as well as a variation of the square dance, called a Sher. The steps are usually not very fast or complicated.
Ace DJ Jamie Renton will also lay down the global beats!
