ORCHESTRE DU MONT PLAISANT

Our headliners for the night Orchestre play blues and dance pieces, with notable influences from Congolese Soucous, Ethiopian Jazz & Groove and South American Cumbia. Mainly instrumental but with bits of choir and screaming freaking bopping vocals!

Orchestre du Mont-Plaisant is Catapulte Records’ “all-star” band, it features Juste Akiss “Voyant” on guitar, Luke Warmcop “Sage” on drums and percussions, Piro “Vulgaire”” on bass and Graham Mushnik “Souffrant” on accordion and organ.

Guys from 113 Dalston Lane wrote:
‘Orchestre du Mont-Plaisant are an imaginary super group. Unless you catch them in hi-fidelity “London Easters” real life you’d reckon to be listening to 2 fifths The Doors (sleezy organ and stomp bass) one 5th Hank Marvin, and one splendidly gelling 5th of cajun (ish) accordian. The fifth fifth sets all in head bopping motion with perfectly uncomplicated yet striking chops. An uplifting gem of coalescent enterprise’

Orchestre has already toured and performed in France, Germany, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro as well as performing regularly in its born-town. The eponymus first Lp was recorded in January 2011 in the French alps at Larsen-studio in Chambery and is now out on Catapulte.

MALPHINO

A heady exotica mix of Latin American and tropical rhythms – from Brazilian Forró to Colombian Cumbia, and a nod of the hat to Italian film score. Accordions, tubas, an organ, gitane guitar and percussion will have you dancing and flailing your arms about all night long in what we hope is to be a tropical London summer!

Malphino is a conceptual music project based around an imaginary island called ‘Malphino’.The islanders are immigrants from different places in the world and the island belongs to nobody and everybody belongs to the land. With their music they hope to transport the audience to the beautiful island and the culture of ‘Malphino’ – the sunshine island of joy and spice!
