The fantastic Harry Evans and His Flying Squirrels present two sets of the music they like to think of as “Revival Swing”, hailing from a period in the 1930s and 40s when the tunes and forms of Early jazz were mixed with the new, hard-hitting rhythms of Swing. Expect material in the vein of Sidney Bechet, Louis Armstrong’s All-Stars, Muggsy Spanier and Eddie Condon. The concert will be mixed-tempo, offering music perfect for dancing Lindy Hop, Shag and Balboa, or sitting and enjoying over a choice of refreshments from the bar and kitchen!
The Flying Squirrels are led by double-bassist and trumpeter Harry Evans, along with a cast of London’s finest specialists in the idiom. Harry is in-demand across London’s early jazz and swing dance scenes, and a familiar face to Jamboree audiences as a member of the Cable Street Rag Band, the Fleeting Paradise Orchestra and Elise Roth’s Harvard Squares. He is also a keen Lindy Hop and Collegiate Shag dancer, and can usually be spotted before and after his performances taking a turn on the dancefloor!
Jamboree food option: Our ‘Zer’ kitchen is open from 12pm till 4 and 5pm onwards serving delicious Middle Eastern fusion food for you to enjoy a meal/snack if you wish! Find the menu HERE!
